Smoking cigarettes…

October 11th, 2009

I’ve been wheat/gluten free for 2 days now…

… and no, I haven’t taken up smoking, but I now understand how smokers feel when they try to quit…

I’m half way through making a loaf of wheat/gluten free bread (using some Wheat/Gluten free flour I found in Sainsbury’s – at first it was weird, like trying to knead ground rice flour or pounded yam, very sticky… the dough is currently in the boiler cupboard rising) and learning how to use the gas cooker. I made some flapjacks earlier on. The first time I used the oven, took me over an hour to figure out how to light the darn thing. Then I didn’t turn it high enough so they weren’t cooked properly whenI first took them out, so I turned the heat up and baked them for another 10 minutes.

I’m scared of making a cake in there for fear that it will sink terribly. I haven’t got my head around the way the temperature works, and there isn’t a little light to tell me when it’s reached the right temperature, but I don’t just want to leave the gas burning for fear of emptying the credit on the meter – or burning the house down. I was spoiled with an electric oven at my Mum’s house… this one doesn’t have a timer, Mum pointed that out to me. Thank goodness for the countdown timers on phones, my mind is so all over the place at the moment I would forget to check the time if I was relying on the clock… if I even remembered what time it went in.

Gazelle’s just finished making dinner and he’s making me some tea.

Potatoes, salmon and chickpeas

We’re having potatoes, salmon and chickpeas… looks yummy… and yes, I am eating dinner in bed.
